{"id":1846,"date":"2017-12-06T02:25:11","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T02:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/aylinsatunolsun.com\/?p=1846"},"modified":"2017-12-18T13:17:18","modified_gmt":"2017-12-18T13:17:18","slug":"onyargilarini-yen-senden-farkli-birine-mentor-ol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aylinsatunolsun.com\/en\/onyargilarini-yen-senden-farkli-birine-mentor-ol\/","title":{"rendered":"Overcome Biases: Mentor Someone Who is Different One from You!\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello!<\/p>\n<p>When I wrote my impressions after my trip to Madrid, I mentioned how the British Ambassador described the Unconscious Bias concept.\u00a0From that day on I began to investigate this subject in detail.\u00a0then I realized there are so much sources on this subject, it is like a deep ocean!\u00a0Biases, which we\u00a0are not aware of because of social norms, affect our lives and others so much\u00a0!!!\u00a0\u00a0These are the\u00a0reactions that we are not aware of, that we are not accustomed to in daily life, that we do not know if they exist in our uncounsiousness\u00a0. They can derive from many different reasons such as:the concepts of\u00a0\u00a0gender, race, nation, clothes, language, etc.,\u00a0But now the world we live in is becoming global, and we live together with people who are different\u00a0from us\u00a0, who are from different cultures even\u00a0\u00a0we have never known.\u00a0Even if we\u00a0are not aware, these biases can affect our lives.\u00a0The worst thing is the reactions and behaviors that we have with social norms; can be\u00a0\u00a0perceived by ourselves as discrimination, disappearance, exclusion.For a more peaceful, more collaborative world, we first need to realize the value judgments we are not aware of and then we should\u00a0\u00a0want to this behaviour change.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/aylinsatunolsun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/unconsciousbias1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1214\" src=\"http:\/\/aylinsatunolsun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/unconsciousbias1.png\" alt=\"unconsciousbias1\" width=\"308\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aylinsatunolsun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/unconsciousbias1.png 308w, https:\/\/aylinsatunolsun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/unconsciousbias1-300x160.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0I will write about the issue of Unconscious Bias\u00a0\u00a0on gender equality in more detail in another article.\u00a0<\/span>I want to share a video with you before that article.\u00a0\u00a0Again a TEDx videosu&#8230;\u00a0People asked me what TEDX is.\u00a0\u00a0TED consists of the initials of Technology, Entertainment, Design words.\u00a0It is an activity that you listen to inspirational speeches on different topics within a maximum of 15 minutes with slogan of &#8216; Ideas Worth Spreading&#8217;.\u00a0There is a TED organization in Istanbul on November 21st.\u00a0You can buy tickets from Biletix or listen to different speeches from www.ted.com for more information.\u00a0Yassmin Abdel-Magied speaks shockingly and impressively about Unconscious Bias.\u00a0The title of the conversation<strong> Overcome biases: Mentor Someone Who is Different One from You!\u00a0<\/strong>I think it&#8217;s a good video to start talking about biases.\u00a0Today, Human Resources Director Birsen \u00c7evik,\u00a0a colleague of mine,was a guest writer at BAT\u00a0, she also wrote her\u00a0experience\u00a0\u00a0as a mentor in non-governmental organizations.\u00a0PWN Istanbul has been the leader of the study group for the past 2 years\u00a0. And they did a great job!I also enjoyed mentoring 2 times in this working group.<\/p>\n<p>I learned a lot.\u00a0Mentoring\u00a0is a two-sided learning tool.<\/p>\n<p>Have you not tried yet?
